As of 2/12/08, the University of Iowa Rheumatology Division has no positions available for fellowship training starting July 1, 2009. We have chosen 2 remarkable residents within the University of Iowa program whose spouses are continuing training at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and neither of whom intended to apply to any other programs.
We very much appreciate your interest in our program and wish you the very best in finding a fellowship position.
We will again be offering 2 F1 positions for July 1, 2010.
Sincerely,
George V. Lawry, M.D.

| The training program is designed to provide internists with a strong clinical foundation in rheumatology and to prepare them for careers in independent research, academic clinical teaching and/or patient care. The fellowship curriculum is designed so that the first year is devoted to clinical rotations, providing extensive inpatient and outpatient experience in the care of patients with rheumatic disease.
The second year will be individualized to career goals. For those interested in academic basic science or clinical research, the second year will provide intensive research opportunities with a staff mentor. In some cases, a third year of training may be offered to provide stronger research training. For those interested in an academic career as a clinician-educator, or for those anticipating clinical practice, the second year focuses on extensive (with some inpatient) experience in the care of patients with rheumatic disease. There will be experience in teaching residents and medical students. In some cases, an optional third year may be offered with the candidate functioning as an associate. This is an opportunity to continue extensive patient and teaching opportunities on a more independent level. |
