Department of Internal Medicine Pulmonary, Critial Care, and
Occupational Medicine Fellowship Program

Anesthesia/ Airway Service


(2 Weeks during F 1 Year)

Faculty Responsible : Tara Hata, M.D. and Thomas J. Gross, M.D.

Goals:

  1. To become familiar with airway evaluation using standardized Anesthesia pre-operative criteria.
  2. Learn technique of rapid-sequence induction for urgent intubation.
  3. Familiarization with the drugs available to assist in patient preparation for airway manipulation.
  4. Become familiar with the tools and devices in common practice for airway management.

Site of Instruction:

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics

Evaluation:

Fellows are evaluated informally throughout the month by the staff attending, and they are formally evaluated at the end of each month by Dr. Hata and Dr. Gross.
