Fellowship Schedule
Clinical Requirements
- Twelve months of clinical training (in- and outpatient rotations) divided between VA and UIHC. Ten of these twelve months are completed during the first year.
- One to two months Clinical microbiology rotation
- One hour of clinical microbiology per week while on Team 1
- 1/2 day per week continuity of care ID clinic at UIHC
- 1/2 day per week ambulatory care clinic at UIHC while on Team 2
- 1/2 day per week ambulatory care clinic at VAMC while on Team 2
- 1/2 day per week continuity of care HIV clinic at either UIHC or VAMC
- Travel clinic at UIHC as assigned
- Optional one month of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
- Optional one month Hepatology clinic
Conferences
- Weekly clinical case conference (Infectious Diseases Grand Rounds): Two cases are presented by the fellows as unknowns, discussed, and the literature reviewed on an aspect of the case
- Weekly research conference: progress on ongoing research activity is presented and discussed
- Weekly core curriculum conference: didactic lectures in general ID topics, core curriculum in HIV medicine, travel medicine, epidemiology and infection control
- Monthly Journal club
- Monthly integrated grand rounds (Special I.D. Grand Rounds): a clinical case is presented, and the relevant basic science aspect is discussed
- Monthly immunology lecture series
- Monthly lectures by the fellow to the M4 students rotating on Infectious Diseases consult service
- Monthly common fellow's curriculum (Internal Medicine Fellows’ Interdisciplinary Conference Series): presentations on common requirements of the fellowship programs including ethics, health care system management, genetics, etc. [
