Roger Gingrich, M.D., Ph.D.,
Professor and Director, Fellowship Program
The Fellowship Program of the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation welcomed its first fellow in 1971 and, currently, invites 4 fellows to join the program each year. While it has always been a goal of the fellowship program to train academicians, it has also been recognized that high quality and durable relationships with hematology-oncology physicians in the surrounding area starts with practitioners being familiar with us and we being familiar with people in the practice. Accordingly, approximately one-third of hematology-oncology specialists in our referring area [Iowa and northwestern Illinois] were trained in our fellowship program. Approximately one-third of our graduates have pursued successful careers in academic institutions.
