Fellowship Training Program

Gary Rosenthal, M.D., Professor and Division Director
Mark C. Wilson, M.D.,M.P.H., Professor and Fellowship Direcctor

The fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa is designed to develop skills preparing the highly motivated internist to pursue a career in academic medicine. Fellows are encouraged to focus on a pathway as a clinician investigator or as a clinician educator.

All fellows participate in regular clinical activity and faculty development. General medicine clinics are held in both university and VA hospital settings. Inpatient ward attending occurs at the university hospital. Consultative medicine experiences are available at both hospitals. All fellows maintain a continuity clinical practice throughout their fellowship. Depending on the pathway selected, clinical medicine training may account for up to 40 or 50% of committed time.

All fellows take part in ongoing faculty development events. These sessions develop teaching skills, curriculum development and personal career advancement.
