Our fellowship training program is designed to prepare individuals for an academic career or community practice in endocrinology and diabetes. This program provides intensive clinical training and research experience over a two- to four-year period, tailored to the needs of the individual trainee. Fellows will participate in the care of all in- and out-patients with endocrine disorders seen at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and adjacent Veterans Administration Medical Center (combined total of 850 beds). Additionally, fellows interested in academic careers in endocrinology will have access to a wide variety of laboratory and clinical research opportunities in endocrinology and diabetes within the Division of Endocrinology or with associated investigators in the University of Iowa. These fellows will benefit from the available federally funded diabetes research and training program and the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science Research funded by an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award. Opportunities are available to partake in advanced didactic programs leading to Masters or Doctorate degrees in Translational Biomedicine. Fellows will develop strong working relationships with all members of the endocrine division.
The Training Program will consider all candidates irrespective of visa status. Demonstrated evidence of interest in an academic career, such as previous involvement with research or advanced academic degrees, is preferred though not necessary for consideration. The Program can accommodate up to four fellows total in years 1 and 2 for training.
