| Welcome picnic
At the close of intern orientation, a welcome picnic is held at City Park for the new interns and their families. All residents and faculty are invited to attend. |

| Resident retreats
Each year, a 1-day off-campus retreat for each residency class is organized to provide further skill development in the areas of communication, teaching, leadership, team-building and wellness. Each retreat is purposefully planned to provide didactic and interactive sessions, which address topics most pertinent to the level of the resident participant. There is also plenty of time for fun! |

| Fluid Rounds
Once each month the chief residents organize a social event for the residents. Recent or planned events for this year include a faculty vs. resident volleyball match, resident-fellow picnics, fall bonfire and Halloween party, and a bowling outing. |

| Holiday Party
The department hosts a holiday party for the residents at a local establishment. |

| Monthly Luncheons
Once a month, the residents gather in the Atrium and are joined by the faculty.

| Housestaff Meetings
Once per month the residents meet over lunch with the program directors and chief residents to give feedback and suggestions regarding program related issues.

| ACP -ASIM Clinical Vignette Competition .
Once a year our residents join colleagues from the Iowa Methodist Program to present clinical vignettes. The Iowa chapter of the ACP-ASIM provides the winner with a paid trip to the national ACP-ASIM meeting. Second and third place winners receive gift certificates. |
