Training Pathway
In recognition of the importance of training general and subspecialty internists as research scientists, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) established a Research Pathway to certification that became effective in July 1997. The University of Iowa Internal Medicine Residency Program offers this pathway for selected trainees through the Physician Scientist Training Pathway (PSTP). The PSTP offers an individualized, integrated training program which spans the residency, clinical fellowship, and basic or clinical postdoctoral research years.
This pathway is designed primarily for physicians entering residency programs
at the University of Iowa who have completed both the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. Other
physicians, without a Ph.D., who have demonstrated considerable accomplishments and interest
in research are also candidates for a PSTP position.
Individuals interested in the PSTP program can view more information and application procedures at Carver College of Medicine Physician Scientist Training Pathway. |
