Processing the Newly Collected Stem Cells

The University of Iowa Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Laboratory (HPC Lab) will process the newly collected stem cells. Typical processing may include: removal of cells to help limit graft versus host disease (GVHD), removal of tumor cells with special instrumentation, freezing the cells collected in the above procedures, and preparation of bone marrow and stem cells for shipment to continental and international transplant centers. The HPC Lab also stores and maintains any frozen products required by the Adult Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program. To ensure high quality, laboratory inspections are done by several agencies, including FDA, CAP, AABB and FAHCT.
