Admission
Your First Days on Our B&MT Unit
On the first day of admission, you will meet the people who will care for you throughout the course of the program. Your primary caregivers are our physicians, physician assistants, and nurses of the Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant (ABM&T) Unit although during your hospital stay, staff from other departments may be asked to examine you.
The first few hours after your arrival will be filled with getting settled into your room, becoming familiar with our unit, and getting acquainted with our staff.
The first few days are a time of learning and routine building as you master new skills as well as settle into a daily routine. Our nurses will spend time with you teaching you how to care for your mouth and central venous catheter. Then, you and your nurse will go over your daily routine which will include your newly mastered skills in mouth care and central venous catheter dressing changes as well as bathing, exercise, spirometry (breathing exercises), and application of anti fungal nose spray.
