How do I contact a transplant physician?
You can reach each physician by phone, email, fax or mail. The address of the Division is as follows:

How do I arrange a consultation for my patient?
You are welcome to call one of our transplant physicians directly to discuss your patient's condition and options for therapy. (See, How do I contact a transplant physician? ) You are also welcome to call our program's toll free number, 1-800-944-8220, and ask for one of our Patient Coordinators, Beth Kaufman, RN or Stephen Locher, RN. They are available from 8 AM until 5 PM (Central Time) Monday through Friday. If you call after hours, your call will be answered by voice mail. Please leave a message. Our Patient Coordinator will help you get in contact with one of our transplant physicians. If for any reason you need to urgently reach a transplant program physician you may call the transplant inpatient unit any time at (319) 356-3330.
How do I contact a transplant physician after 5:00 PM or on weekends for urgent patient care?
You should contact the Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant In-Patient Unit at 319-356-3330. Our Unit staff will assist you in contacting the appropriate physician. If you do not get through, call our hospital operator at 319-356-1616, and ask for a fellow physician for hematology and oncology.
How can I set up tissue typing at the University of Iowa before starting chemotherapy?
Patients in need of an allogeneic transplant should begin the process of tissue typing as soon as possible and preferably before chemotherapy is begun. Contact one of our Patient Coordinators, Beth Kaufman, R.N., or Stephen Locher, R.N. at 1-800-944-8220 to begin this process.
Do you have good educational resources for the clinical management of transplant patients?
We encourage you to go to the Resources section related to the care of transplant patients.
