9/5/2006 Paul Mulhausen, M.D., clinical associate professor of internal medicine in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, has been named the John McMaster Ristine, M.D., Geriatric Education Clinical Associate Professor, a renewable appointment that lasts five years. The professorship is supported by an endowment established by the estate of Mary Ristine Brodie and was designated to support geriatric education. Mulhausen develops training programs and curriculum in geriatrics education for medical students and residents. He has been nationally recognized for his work on creating learning tools for health care workers. Mulhausen is a member of the Public Policy Advisory Group of the American Geriatrics Society, and is the president of the Iowa Chapter of the American Medical Directors Association. He received the 2006 "Excellence in Leadership Award" from the Iowa Association of Homes and Services for the Aged. "Dr. Mulhausen is the consummate geriatrician," said Paul Rothman, M.D., UI head of internal medicine and the Francois M. Abboud Chair of Medicine. "He is a tireless advocate for patients, who respect him immensely, and colleagues across the state frequently seek his clinical expertise and insight. Add to this his remarkable teaching skills, and we have the ideal candidate for the Ristine professorship." Mulhausen earned a medical degree in 1987 from the University of Minnesota and completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Duke University. |
