Department of Internal Medicine UI Health Care Specialists To Discuss Breast Cancer Advances 10/7/2003 Breast cancer specialists from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will discuss the newest tools in the fight against the disease during a complimentary public seminar from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, located at 1220 First Ave. in Coralville. In 2003, there will be an estimated 2,300 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed among Iowans. However, clinicians and researchers at Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI are offering hope by pioneering new approaches to preventing, detecting and treating the disorder. Drugs that prevent breast cancer, treatments without mastectomies, digital mammograms with sharper images and genetic testing are helping women today and show even more promise for the future. Presented by UI Health Care, this "Health For Your Lifetime" seminar's presenters are Laurie Fajardo, M.D., UI professor and head of radiology, Geraldine Jacobson, M.D., UI associate professor of radiation oncology, and Susan Roman, D.O., UI assistant professor of internal medicine.
