Department of Internal Medicine UI scientist honored for hypertension research ![]() Anne E. Kwitek, Ph.D. Associate Professor Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
5/11/2009 Anne Kwitek, Ph.D., faculty member in the UI Carver College of Medicine, has received a Young Scholars Award from the American Society of Hypertension. Kwitek, associate professor of internal medicine and molecular physiology and biophysics, was one of three recipients of the annual award. She received the honor and a $6,000 award May 9 at the society's annual meeting held in San Francisco. Kwitek studies animal and human genetics and has contributed substantially to the rat genome project. Her research projects focus on genetic components of complex disease, including hypertension, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, in rats and humans. She has written more than 85 research articles. |
