2/9/2009

The Department of Internal Medicine held its annual ACP clinical vignette competition for residents and medical students on Friday, February 6, 2009. Fourteen residents and four medical students participated. All of the presentations were excellent again this year, making judging very difficult. However, the judges chose these winners:

Residents:
- 1st place: Oussama Lawand – Pancreatitis Polyarthritis Panniculitis
- 2nd place: Shinkai Hakimi – Connecting the Dots … A Case of Palpable Purpura

Students:
- 1st place: Anne T. Wilson – Anaphylactic Transfusion Reaction: A Rare Transfusion Complication

The winners will be invited to present their cases at Grand Rounds (April 23 for the Medical Students and June 18 for the Residents), and Oussama and Shinkai will represent Internal Medicine by presenting their cases at the ACP Chapter Meeting (March 27-28).

Please congratulate all who participated and did an outstanding job. It’s clear that a lot of work went into the presentations (which were excellent) and reminded the judges that we see some very interesting cases at the University of Iowa!
