February is American Heart Month

2/1/2009

February is designated as American Heart Month, and many activities are being planned by UI Heart & Vascular Center and our partners the American Heart Association to increase awareness of heart and vascular health throughout the community.

Activities:

Kiosk at Coral Ridge Mall
A kiosk with educational materials to increase public awareness about heart health and raise visibility of our program will be available at the Coral Ridge Mall throughout February.

Wear Red Day - February 6th
Several activities will take place in the Fountain Lobby of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Over the lunch period there will be a mini health fair with many groups such as CHAMPS, Emergency Medicine, Stroke, Vascular Labs and others participating.

A heart healthy cooking demonstration is also in the works, as well as an exercise class, open to all staff and visitors. There will also be a ‘wear red’ contest with a prize for the person wearing the most red items. A silent auction to raise funds for the American Heart Association and the UI Heart and Vascular Center foundation is also being planned. Visit www.goredforwomen.org for more information on heart disease in women.

Announcing the new Go Red Girl Scouts Patch
UI Heart and Vascular Center and the American Heart Association have partnered with Girl Scouts to launch a Go Red Girl Scouts Patch, seeking to bring Girl Scouts and the women they love together to raise awareness of the danger of heart disease as a serious women’s health issue. Check out the patch program on the Girl Scouts website, or via the UI Heart and Vascular Center webpage.

Thanks, and GO RED!
