Victor Receives Top American Heart Association Award
Dr. Ronald Victor (F '84), chief of hypertension at UT Southwestern, has received one of the top awards presented by the American Heart Association. Dr. Victor received the association’s Louis B. Russell Jr. Memorial Award for outstanding service to minority and underserved populations. In 2003, Dr. Victor initiated a program at two Dallas-area barbershops to improve the awareness, treatment and control of high blood pressure among African-American men by having the barbers measure their customers’ blood pressures when they came in for a haircut.
Dr. Wenzel on the Science Channel: Anatomy of a Pandemic
The International Society for Infectious Diseases is pleased to inform you of an exciting TV program featuring our immediate past president, Dr. Richard Wenzel. Dr. Wenzel recently traveled to Mexico City, on an invitation from the Ministry of Health, to provide expertise on the swine flu and participate in discussions regarding the H1N1 outbreak. A film crew accompanied Dr. Wenzel during his trip, documenting his experience with H1N1 patients at a local hospital and his visit to a local vaccine warehouse.
