In 1870, William S. Robertson committed his life and energy to the creation of the University of Iowa 's Department of Internal Medicine and to the inauguration of a tradition of excellence in education, patient care, and research. In 2005 we celebrated the department's 135th anniversary -- nearly one and a half centuries of exceptional achievement and leadership in each of these areas.
