His Research interests center around education, curriculum development, and teaching effectiveness with a particular focus on developing a three-part sequential curriculum to teach the essential skills of musculoskeletal physical examination to students, residents, and practicing primary care physicians. Written study guides, teaching videotapes and an instructional CD-ROM (with links to an image gallery of abnormals) have been developed for the "Screening Musculoskeletal Exam (Part I) and the "General Musculoskeletal Examinations" (Part II) of the curriculum. Currently, written materials, VT and CD-ROM/DVD are being developed for "Regional Musculoskeletal Exams" (Part III) for the Shoulder, Knee, Neck & Low Back. The CD-ROM of the SMSE & GMSE were recently included in Bernstein J ed. "Musculoskeletal Medicine", 1 st ed. Rosemont, IL; American Acadamy of Orthopedic Surgeons; 2003 and in Harris ED, Budd RC Firestein GS et al, eds. "Textbook of Rheumatology" 7 th ed. Philadelphia, PA; Elsevier Science; 2004.
Parts I and II of the curriculum currently are being utilized by a number of medical schools around the country, and Dr. Lawry and colleagues have been invited to deliver workshops on musculoskeletal examination techniques at American College of Physicians annual meetings from 1997 to the present.
