Inpatient Consultation Service

The consultation service provides expert advice to inpatient clinical internal medicine (including the cardiovascular intensive care unit), neurology, psychiatry, and surgical (including the Burn unit and Surgical intensive care unit) services throughout the UIHC. Scholarly support of recommendations with relevant articles from the medical literature is a common practice. The service consists of senior medical students and is managed by a 2nd or 3rd year pulmonary fellow with supervision by a faculty member. Last year 564 initial inpatient consults and 1232 follow-ups were seen within the UIHC.
