Jeanne Montgomery Smith, M.D.
Associate Professor Emeritus

Dr. Smith's clinical interests include observations on the characteristics of atopic diseases and asthma in relationship to possible etiology of these diseases. Having trained in a laboratory at Johns Hopkins from 1949-51 which was dedicated to a search for viruses in diseases of unknown cause, she has been interested in the possibility of a viral cause for atopy. Over the years, the reasons for considering a viral hypothesis have gathered strength. In view of the possibility of cure or prevention, the reasons for this hypothesis have been published again recently. In addition, her research interests involve the epidemiology and natural course of atopic diseases and asthma.
