Inpatient Services:
Solid Tumor Inpatient Service
The Solid Tumor Inpatient Service cares for patients with cancer of solid organs, including tumors of the lung, breast, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, kidney and other genitourinary sites, skin, head and neck, thymoma, thyroid, sarcoma, unknown primary, and other sites. The service is located in the John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer Center. A shielded room is available for the delivery of radiotherapeutic regimens.
The service includes medical students, two junior and one senior resident physician in Internal Medicine, and a Hematology/Oncology staff physician. A fellow associate undergoing subspecialty training in Hematology/Oncology may also participate. The service delivers both standard and investigational therapies, including protocols sponsored by major multi-institutional groups such as the Cancer and Leukemia Group B, as well as investigational therapies originated at the University of Iowa.
