Dr. Nisly's clinical interests include general medicine primary care, internal medicine outreach to the local community, patient education in diet and life-style changes in prevention and treatment of disease, and patient's and physician's use of alternative and complementary medicine treatment and how to safely integrate its use with standard medical care.

Her research interests include prevalence of use of alternative medicine in Iowa and the United States, mechanism of action, benefits and side effects of use of herbal therapies, mechanism of action, efficacy and safety of various forms of alternative and complementary medicine, complementary and alternative medicine and health care professional education, patient education in diet and life-style changes in the prevention and treatment of disease, and preventive medicine and primary care.
