Daryl K. Granner,
M.D.
Professor Emeritus
Departments of Internal Medicine and Physiology
Special Consultant to the Dean
Dr. Granner’s research interests focus on molecular biology, in particular the regulation of gene transcription by insulin and the relationship of molecular physiology to diabetes. He served as director of the UI Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism and established the Iowa NIH-sponsored Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center. In 1984 he moved to Vanderbilt University, where he directed the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics within the School of Medicine. Under his leadership this department became the leading recipient of NIH grants for Physiology departments in the U.S., a position it has held for the past 17 years. He also organized the Vanderbilt Diabetes Center, which is one of the leading centers for diabetes research and clinical care in the United States. As Special Consultant to the Dean of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Dr. Granner participates in DEO searches, and contributes insight and leadership to the University of Iowa Diabetes Research Center and the UI Institute for Biomedical discovery.
