Carol joined the department in 1979 to create a graphic design unit that today is known across the College of Medicine as one of the finest resources of its kind on campus. In 1997 she moved to the department personnel office which was beginning the daunting task of centralizing, organizing, and expanding personnel management in order to meet a sharp growth in departmental hiring along with the increasing demands of federal, state and University employment policy makers.
In 2007, Carol was appointed director of department human resources. Her close working relationships with collegiate and hospital HR have been crucial in the transition from two separate systems (one collegiate, one hospital) to a unified system for UI Health Care. While managing a personnel system for one of the largest administrative units on campus (exceeded in size only by the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Medicine, and UI Hospitals and Clinics), Carol has, in addition, “loaned” herself and her staff to other departments to assist as they searched for leadership of their own. She is closely involved in ongoing discussions within the new unified HR office for UI Health Care.
